The courts or any legal writing wikipedia for example if you were to credit certain argument wherein cases statutes etc are used in briefs filed with the question is bit ambiguous id say that citations are used in legal.
For example if you were to credit certain argument from published case youd cite it as don king 123 f2d 456 5th cir 2008.
You have to cite any and all information that is not your own. If you use case law you have to cite it. If you cite a law journal you have to cite it…etc…
